We set the industry standard in tailgate design since we introduced the first off-highway Autogate Tailgate to the industry over 30 years ago. Today, we’ve produced more than 5,000 tailgates for both articulated and rigid frame off-highway trucks.

Each fast-opening, fast-acting Autogate Tailgate provides increased payloads, decreased material spillage, improved loading and a balanced load distribution. And, we use a unique, high-strength chain that’s stronger than any commercially available standard chain and oversized gate pivot pins to provide maximum durability.

How Does An Autogate Tailgate Increase Your Truck Payload and Productivity?

Without a tailgate, isolated components such as the front suspension, front axle, hoist mechanism, and steering equipment may be overburdened. While attempting to prevent spillage, operators may pile the load forward in the truck bed causing damage to the canopies, overload to the front tires, and side spillage. By closing the rear of the truck, tailgates provide a bigger loading target helping the loader operator distribute the load evenly from the front to the rear of the truck so weight distribution improves.

With the truck bed closed, you’ll also realize a volumetric capacity increase of up to 15%, depending on the material hauled.

A direct benefit of tailgates is the elimination of rear-end spillage. When a non-tailgated truck shifts gears on an incline or turns a corner, materials can be lost over the sides or out the rear leading to tire damage. Our Autogate Tailgate reduces side and rear-end spillage by keeping the “rocks-in-the-box”. Drivers steer with ease through clutter-free loading and haulage areas.

Operation of our Autogate Tailgate is simple and trouble-free. No lock, cylinders or controls to malfunction. The body dumps, the Autogate Tailgate opens.

Tailgate Accessories

A number of accessories are available to enhance the performance of your Autogate Tailgate.

1. Sideboards
Recommended to increase volumetric capacity when hauling lightweight material. (Does increase loading height.) Special prices are available for Autogate Tailgate/sideboard packages.

2. Body Seal
Installed on sides of body to help seal space between the gate, sidearms and body sides. Reduces most fine or fluidic material leakage, +/- ¾”.

3. Fluidic Seal
Provides a nearly complete seal between the Autogate Tailgate and truck body to haul extremely soupy materials. Uses the body seal components plus additional seal across the bottom gate rear. Recommended when you need more than a body seal to keep your material “in-the-box”.

4. Rubber Cushion Assembly
Recommended for underground operations and operations with high road speeds and uneven haul roads. Reduces tailgate wear, bouncing and noise. May be installed on an existing gate or purchased with an Autogate Tailgate.

	Tailgate Installation Installation of the PHIL Autogate Tailgate can be handled in one of three ways: Tailgate to Body Installation at PHIL factory in Peoria, IL Field Installation with PHIL Supervisory Assistance Self Installation by customer For installations taking place away from the PHIL factory, the following items are needed: Two (2) qualified welders One (1) helper to assist with the installation 4 or 5 chains at least 10 ft long (10 to 20 ft preferred) Lifting device capable of lifting 2 tons Two, one (1) ton or larger come-alongs Safe ladders or scaffolding Two (2) hand winches (1 ton or larger) A loader or crane with operator for intermittent use (in assembling gate and lifting it into position on truck)            Misc. hand tools and blocking                                                   Dry, low hydrogen E70XX iron powder coated welding rods (or comparable wire) Material as indicated on installation drawings for the fabrication of a basic installation tool (provided with installation manual prior to shipment of Autogate Tailgate) Touch-up paint as needed Approximate Installation Time: Articulated Tailgate: 35 – 50 man hours +/- Series II / Max Load Tailgate: 40 – 55 man hours +/- Standard Rigid-Frame Tailgate: 45 – 60 man hours +/- Outriggerless Tailgate: 45 – 60 man hours +/- Ultra-High Tailgate: 45 – 60 man hours +/- The time required to install an Autogate Tailgate will be directly related to organization, the number and skill set of people involved, and familiarity with tailgate installations.  As with any product, if someone on the installation team has installed a tailgate before, the installation often goes more smoothly and quickly than when a team that has not installed a tailgate before is assigned the task.  For this reason, Philippi-Hagenbuch, Inc. strongly encourages anyone that has not installed a tailgate for several years to accept our Installation Assistance service.
