PEORIA, Ill. (February 22, 2016) – Philippi-Hagenbuch announces its new Sand Spreader Body designed primarily for mining but with benefits in a variety of other applications including construction, aggregates, quarries and landfills. The three-part system provides a safe and efficient way to add traction to the sometimes hundreds of miles of icy haul roads often found in mines.

“We receive multiple requests every year for a sanding body,” said Josh Swank, Philippi-Hagenbuch vice president of sales. “So when we started designing the system, we wanted to ensure that it met the same criteria as all of our products. This system, like other bodies from PHIL, can withstand the harshest worksite conditions. They are simple to operate and maintain, robustly built, and they maximize efficiency by getting as close to the truck’s true hauling capacity as possible.” Sand Spreader

The three-part system fits 2016 models of PHIL’s patented line of Rear-Eject Bodies and includes a Grizzly screen along with the Sanding Attachment. The removable grizzly attaches to the PHIL Rear-Eject Body with two interlocking plates. The screen features a heavy-duty, interlocking lattice of steel to prevent material larger than 2 inches in diameter from passing through, protecting the auger while assuring all the material in the body is usable. The ejector blade pushes the material to an auger which loads the spreader chutes and material is then dispersed through a set of spinners for even material distribution. The flow of the sand or material being spread is controlled in part by the ejector blade speed.

The spreader attachment offers a significant return on investment because buyers avoid purchasing a dedicated piece of equipment. Operators can use the PHIL Sanding Attachment to add traction to icy roads during winter then use the Rear-Eject Body to haul material during the spring, fall and summer. Adding and removing the attachment is easy with just two hooks and a tailgate pin holding the spreader in place. The system can be detached and the truck back on the road for hauling within the day.

Unlike traditional solutions for mining road maintenance which dump the sand between the front and rear wheels of the truck, the PHIL Sanding Body evenly distributes the material across the road surface. The PHIL system virtually eliminates the risk of damaging or prematurely wearing tires on the Sanding Body and in turn helps save on maintenance costs. The operator can make a simple in-cab adjustment to optimize the amount of material being spread, while being in complete control over material discharge - something that cannot be done with gravity fed solutions.

PHIL constructs all of their products to stand the test of time. The system is made from Hardox 450 steel and is designed for maximum productivity. PHIL builds the auger and the spinners out of heavy-duty steel designed specifically for the mining industry, and the PHIL Rear-Eject Body out of high-strength, abrasive-resistant steel to withstand years with little more than typical preventative maintenance. PHIL designed the system with few moving parts, which also contributes to less required maintenance. The system is derived from agriculture and highway technology, but PHIL adapted it for the heavy-duty mining environment.

“We are always looking for ways to make our customers’ lives safer, more productive, and more efficient,” Swank said. “There were multiple workers killed on the job in 2015 in the mining industry, some because of slippery haul roads. This is the first in a series of attachments that will help us achieve our goal of making mines more productive, profitable and safe. Safety is everything.”

The Manufacturing Institute announced the 2015 STEP Ahead honorees and emerging leaders this week, and amongst them was Philippi-Hagenbuch's own president, Danette Swank. These women have accomplished success within their companies and have proven to be leaders in the industry as a whole. In 2015, the Institute has also chosen to recognize a select few for the for the emerging leaders category - representing young women who are the future of the industry and have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments at just the beginning of their careers.

An impressive list of 130 women were honored at the STEP Ahead Awards on March 26,2 015 at the Hyatt Regency on Capital Hill.

"LeRoy and Pat Hagenbuch, my parents, have been role models for me both in business as well as in life, for which I am grateful. They challenge me to be my best; they are not 'yes people' and have had the fortitude to be glaringly honest, while providing impactful guidance.”

Since taking the reigns of Philippi-Hagenbuch, Inc. (PHIL) in July 2013, Danette has been instrumental in streamlining the work flow between departments to help reduce delays in the overall manufacturing process, resulting in the achievement of better on-time delivery of products to the client with increased client satisfaction.  Over the past 18 years, Danette has worked in almost every department to develop knowledge about how each department contributes to the big picture; how it works and how it affects the company as a whole. As Danette transitioned into the president role at PHIL, as the third generation to lead the company that her father and grandfather founded in 1969, she embraced the responsibility to continue the legacy started over 45 years earlier.

Danette's goal is to expand the company into additional lines of business within the quarry, mining, steel mill, landfill, power plant, oil refinery, agriculture, and forestry industries through smart decision making, while continuing to foster a team of associates that are thought of as "family."

Danette shares her talent with the community and trade groups too.  Early in her career, she drove the establishment of a Young Leaders Council at the Illinois Manufacturing Association with the goal of providing an incubator for the involvement of young leaders in the manufacturing sector of Illinois.   More recently, Danette enjoys being an active Board Member for the Peoria Production Shop – a manufacturing, assembly, and packaging facility that is a premiere employer of individuals with disabilities. Additionally, Danette is an active Board Member for the OSF Healthcare Foundation.

Danette is very observant and does an excellent job of reading people. She takes time to get to know them, encourages their participation in group events, and shows them that their opinions matter. Danette believes that when individuals succeed, the team succeeds. To fully understand what's going on throughout the organization, Danette makes it a point to have a personal conversation with every PHIL Associate once a week, and encourages suggestions and feedback on how things can be done better.

Philippi-Hagenbuch, Inc. is honored to be chosen for the "Top 25 Rollouts of 2013" award by Aggregates Manager magazine for our new HardRock(TM) HiVol(R) Aggregates Body.

The new bod, developed for use in quarry environments, is engineered for the specific make and model of trucks in use at the client side and can be designed for all makes and models of off-highway, rigid-frame haul trucks.

Designed to match or exceed the life of the truck, the new body decreases carryback of sticky material. Engineers gather infrmation on height and width restrictions, as well as loading tools and hopper/loadout to create a body tailored for maximum productivity and minimum maintenance according to site-specific needs. The body's design also incorporates PHIL's Autogate(R) Tailgate, allowing for maximum payload, extended tire life, decreased road maintenance and proper load placement within the body.
